One minor improvement on the M3 over the M2 is battery life. Your only remote options are the Camera Connect app and handheld IR remote trigger. Unfortunately neither have wireless or wired connection to EOS Utility for controlled remote shooting. Both the M2 and M3 allow wireless camera-to-camera image fransfer (even between the different models) which is great for sharing images between bodies. It works fine, but doesn't have the advanced features of the M2. I don't know why the M3 wireless was dumbed down the way it was. The M2 makes it possible to connect to an infrastructure network, as well as set a custom SSID and password for the camera in AdHoc mode. There is one thing I like about the M2 wireless over the newer M3. The M2 has built-in WiFi, which allows use of the Canon Camera Connect app for Live View remote shooting from a tablet or smartphone, plus easy download of images from the camera to phone, and syncing the time and date of the phone and camera. The M2 does not black out the screen after every exposure, and there is no delay shooting one frame to another in single mode, as with the original M. Though they appear almost identic al, they are very different in terms of usability. There really is nothing bad to say about the sensor quality.Ĭompared to the original EOS M, the M2 is a huge improvement. I regularly shoot my M2 at 1600 ISO, and even as high as 6400 ISO for nighttime Milky Way shots. It is extremely sharp, with outstanding color and very good high ISO performance. The 18mp APS-C sensor used in the M2 was put in more camera bodies by Canon than any other. With the exception of lacking an electronic viewfinder option, and being slightly lower in resolution than the M3, the M2 has everything you need. With only one major shortcoming, the M2 is by far my favorite. I currently own two EOS M2 (one is converted to infrared, more on that later) and one EOS M3. I have owned all of the Canon M series mirrorless bodies.
